【摘要】:Thisguidedescribesageneralapproachfortheuseofexistingwellsinenvironmentalinvestigationswithaprimaryfocusonthesubsurfaceandmajorfactorsaffectingthesurfaceandsubsurfaceenvironment.Existingwellsrepresentavaluablesourceofinformationforsubsurfaceenvironmentalinvestigations.Specificusesofexistingwellsinclude:Welldrillerlogsprovideinformationonsubsurfacelithologyandmajorwater-bearingunitsinanarea.Existingwellscanalsoofferaccessfordownholegeophysicalloggingforstratigraphicandaquiferinterpretations.Examplesincludenaturalgammalogsincasedwellsandanentiresuiteofmethodsinuncasedbedrockwells(seeGuideD5753).Thisinformationcanassistindevelopingthepreliminaryconceptualmodelofthesite.Welltestsusingexistingwellsmayprovideinformationonthehydrologiccharacteristicsofanaquifer.Monitoringofwaterlevelsinexistingwells,providedthattheyarecasedintheaquiferofinterest,allowdevelopmentofpotentiometricmapsandinterpretationsofground-waterflowdirections.Existingwellsaretheprimarymeansbywhichregionaldrinkingwaterqualityisevaluatedandmonitored.Existingwellsmayassistinthemappingofcontaminantplumes,andinongoingmonitoringofground-waterqualitychangesatthesite-specificlevel.Datafromexistingwellsshouldonlybeusedwhencharacteristicsofthewellhavebeensufficientlydocumentedtodeterminethattheysatisfycriteriaforthepurposeforwhichthedataaretobeused.1.1Thisguidecoverstheuseofexistingwellsforenvironmentalsitecharacterizationandmonitoring.Itcoversthefollowingmajortopics:criteriafordeterminingthesuitabilityofexistingwellsforhydrogeologiccharacterizationandground-waterqualitymonitoring,typesofdatarequiredtodocumentthesuitabilityofanexistingwell,andtherelativeadvantagesanddisadvantagesofexistinglarge-andsmall-capacitywells.1.2ThisguideshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithGuideD5730,thatprovidesageneralapproachforenvironmentalsiteinvestigations.1.3Thisguidedoesnotspecificallyaddressdesignandconstructionofnewmonitoringorsupplywells.RefertoPracticesD5092andD5787.1.4Thisguidedoesnotspecificallyaddressground-watersamplingprocedures.RefertoGuideD5903.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.1.7Thisguideoffersanorganizedcollectionofinformationoraseriesofoptionsanddoesnotrecommendaspecificcourseofaction.Thisguidecannotreplaceeducationorexperienceandshouldbeusedinconjunctionwithprofessionaljudgment.Notallaspectsofthisguidemaybeapplicableinallcircumstances.Thisguideisnotintendedtorepresentorreplacethestandardofcarebywhichtheadequacyofagivenprofessionalservicemustbejudged,norshouldthisguidebeappliedwithoutconsiderationofaproject''smanyuni......
